Some very fashionable people are doing the Azonto

If you’re not lucky enough to be residing in West Africa you may not have heard of the Azonto song. Like all classic hits, it’s been played on high rotation throughout the streets of Freetown for several weeks now and there’s no sign of it stopping. There’s barely a moment when it’s not rattling your eardrums either through a five stack speaker system that’s bigger than your average house or from a  distant boombox in the dead of the night. Click below to hear the song and watch the video which will help you learn the dance for your next silly season party. I must warn you though, it will be trapped in your head well into 2013 and possibly 2014.

Azonto Dance

And it’s not just the song that gets in your head, the dance seeps into your bones. This routine is more addictive than the macarina and electric slide combined.

Adama Azontos her pants off in this plaid dress teamed with a pair of fetching summer sandals.

It’s another Ibrahim and another interpretation of the Azonto dance. Looking smart and casual in an Africana shirt and cowboy hat, Ibrahim plans to dance the night away.

Sulimatu was walking through the streets of downtown Freetown when the Azonto song started playing from a nearby shop. Within seconds she was shaking her leg Azonto style and looking good while doing it. Leopard print, plastic shoes, snappy accessories, I hope Suli was shufflng her way to the nearest disco, this outfit would be wasted on the couch at home.
