In a sea of same old, same old, there was one star who stood out on the red carpet at last night’s Academy Awards Ceremony. Congolese actress Rachel Mwanza gave Anne Hathaway and co. serious wardrobe envy when she strutted up the red carpet in this Africana extravaganza.

Rachel was granted a last minute visa which allowed her to leave her home town of Kinshasa and attend the awards as a nominee for Best Actress in a Foreign Film in her role in War Witch.
Surry Hills publican/retired film actress Doris Goddard of Hollywood Hotel fame looked right at home in her bar wearing this exotic silk mumu. No, she didn’t find it at the Congo Cross Market, she in fact picked it up from David Jones, Elizabeth Street store in Sydney some time in the eighties.
For those familiar with Doris, you will know that she’s one of the only people in Surry Hills not sporting a Bon Iver beard or black rimmed glasses. Thank you Doris for bringing resort wear to the inner city and railing against the scourge of settler chic that seems to have taken over your corner of town.
