Mustapha the unlikely Okada

Handsome young Mustapaha was heading to the mosque for Friday afternoon prayer when I spotted him. It’s not often you see an Okada (motorbike taxi) driver looking so pristine and well-pressed. The standard Okada driver vibe as featured so often on this site is far more laissez faire and normally involves a crazy hat, a hip hop flavour and whole lot of ‘tude.
IMG_6707But Mustapha is not your average Okada driver. “I wear this jalaba over the top of my clothes when I go to the mosque”, he says. “You have to show your respect to god and dress like a muslim man”.

“Good health and a new girlfriend, can I have your number?”.

Pharrell big hat trend hits Freetown

Introducing Mr Saidu Momo. He’s not a Hare Krishna policeman, he’s just a guy with a love for apricot and a penchant for big hats. As demonstrated on several occasions recently by music maestro and fashion plate¬†Pharrell Williams, a hat can never be too big.

Saidu_Momo_Low_resSaidu agrees, “My hat is big but I like it to be big, people will see it and say ‘that man is important'”. Saidu’s Sheriff hat was purchased at the PZ market.
